Love Beyond the Mask novel Chapter 1127

"The path down there is way too steep, and with all the rain, it's slick as ice. I've heard there are some nasty undercurrents in the canyon. It's dangerous, especially since you seem a bit out of breath..."

Hudson's heart was racing, and he was struggling to catch his breath—an unpleasant reminder of the incident with the rifle bolt.

Hudson, tall and lean, steadied himself against a tree, his piercing gaze cutting through the darkness, trying to make sense of the shadows below...

No clear path in sight.

But he could hear the rushing water, getting louder and more ominous. If Parisa had really been thrown from the top and into those currents, it would be dire. Hudson fervently hoped Whitney and Ludwik would reach her in time...

"You ten spread out and search. We can't waste a second. Find that undercurrent in the canyon, and if you spot any blood or a woman, notify me immediately!"

The bodyguard nodded but cast a glance back at him. "Sir, you shouldn't be alone. There might be wild animals in these woods."

"I'll rest a moment and catch up with you."

"I'm uneasy leaving you here alone. Maybe I should stay."

Hudson shook his head firmly. "No time to waste. Search with everything you've got. Call my cell when you find the canyon entrance!"

The bodyguard recognized the determination in Hudson's eyes and knew arguing was futile.

The ten guards swiftly dispersed, heading in all directions.

After taking a couple of minutes to catch his breath, Hudson grabbed a walking stick and began his descent. He pulled out his phone, hoping to find a familiar path from his past memory.

But suddenly, his foot struck a rock, and his lithe frame tumbled down the slope.

"Ah..."

He let out a pained groan, instinctively shielding his head, but his body wouldn't stop rolling.

The slope was perilously steep. Just as he was about to black out from the pain, his back hit a dead tree with a sickening crack, finally bringing him to a halt. Hudson panted heavily, struggling to his feet, only to realize he was standing at the edge of a cliff.

Below him, the void stretched into darkness.
