While Darren was dodging his father’s beat, he raised his head and said, “I didn’t beat her! She made those bruises herself!” 

When people outside the door heard this, they started to look at Darren in contempt, even including the maids. 

In the past, although Darren was irritable, he would never deny what he had done. But now he lied! The maids thought in their heart. The Bennett family was disappointed in Darren, and the servants showed disgust in their eyes. 

Darren wanted to explain, but when he saw people’s eyes, he suddenly lost the strength to argue. No one would believe him, no 

one. Everyone thought he was lying. 

Lauren was right in front of him, indifferently watching him being beaten by his father. Darren suffered great pain because he 

couldn’t avoid Mr. Bennett senior. 

He raised his head to look at Lauren. As if sensing his gaze, Lauren lowered her head, smiling quietly. Seeing this smile, Darren even trembled and he realized that he was afraid of Lauren at this moment.

Mr. Bennett, who was in a rage, didn’t know who was speaking but he finally stopped. And then he realized that it was Lauren 

who stopped him. 

Facing Lauren, Mr. Bennett junior felt guilty in his heart because it was he who caused Lauren’s missing while he was dating with Mona, his mistress. So the sight of Lauren would always reminded Mr. Bennett of his mistake that he made eighteen years ago. 

He loved his daughter Sally very much, but he didn’t like Lauren after these eighteen years. 

He didn’t want to get along with her and wanted to make it up for Lauren with money. 

But anyway, Lauren was his daughter. Thinking of Darren, Mr. Bennett turned angry again and said, “I’m going to beat him to 

death.” 

Lauren looked at him and did not speak because she was not interested in Mr. Bennett punishing Darren. The reason why she stopped Mr. Bennett was that they blocked the door and Lauren wanted to take her backpack and leave.

Why is she so emotionless?” Mr. Bennett senior thought. So she stopped Lauren who was about to leave and said, “Lauren, could you stay here?” 

Lauren raised her eyes and her curled eyelashes flickered, like a fluttering butterfly. It could make people felt pity for her. Lauren said to Mr. Bennett senior, “But it hurts, Grandpa.” 

Her words made everyone present silent. Everyone seemed to care about her.
