Alice's (POV) -
Rick stared at me with an unreadable expression while I was being torn by several emotions. A mating bond is the most sacred bond for wolves. Once wolves find their mates. The male marks the female, it is followed by wild sex. After which the female marks the male.
It can even happen together during the consummation. Once the mating is done, the bond is complete. They are bound for life. They share their life, feelings, mind everything. Finding your true mate is a gift or a trap, depending on how you take it. No one is allowed to interfere in the mate bond. It is against the law. The male can claim the female, even if she is from his dreaded enemy's camp.
"Well? Now can I claim my mate?" Lucian said impatiently.
Rick held up his hand to stop him.
"You are in my territory. I will decide what happens, even if she is your mate, you cannot take her away without my approval."
Lucian's green eyes flashed with anger. My mate and my brother glared at each other.
"Rick please...." I started to say.
I bit my lips. This was not what I wanted. I had never felt so conflicted in my entire life. I wanted to avoid being with Lucian, but my wolf wanted him.
"You cannot stop me from claiming my mate, Rick. If you want war, I have come prepared for it." Lucian growled. He was about to shift.
"Very well, let's do this the old-fashioned way, or would you prefer guns," Rick warned, pointing his gun at Lucian?
I heard the click, and I did something which I had never done before. I lost control. My wolf broke free from my bindings. My body cracked and reshaped itself as my clothes ripped off from my body. My eyes changed, teeth descended, claws protruded. A glance at Rick and a growl escaped from my lungs. Lana, my wolf, was in control.
I broke through the wall of warriors, ignoring the gasp from Emma. Not able to control me. I lunged at Rick as the sound of firing echoed in the hall. The bullet ricocheted off the wall. Rick had accidentally fired the gun. The sound of gunfire agitated my wolf. Lana wanted his throat. Rick fell over, surprised. I stood over his chest, growling.
He stared at me wide-eyed. Rabid, Lana growled.
"Mine! Don't touch my mate," Lana said, though only I could understand her.
Suddenly, a strong pair of arms were gripping me, hauling me backwards. Lana thrashed around.
"Alice stop !" Lucian yelled.
But I was not in control. Lana was. She wanted to rip off the throat of anyone who dared harm her mate. Even if he was my brother. I could not fight her anger. Despite my thrashing, Lucian was able to control me. Pulling me away from Rick.
As his scent and touch sunk into me, Lana calmed down. I stopped thrashing. He gently put me back on the ground. Making sure I was facing him, not Rick.
"Hey beautiful, come here," he said huskily. Suddenly, I was overwhelmed with desire. Lucian was bending down on his one knee, encouraging me to approach him. Power emanated from him. I wanted to submit. He smiled and gently caressed me behind my ear, running his hand through my fur. I closed my eyes, enjoying his touch.
"You are perfect," he whispered. Lana was calm now. The presence of her mate had mellowed her down. With horror, I realized I had almost killed my brother.
"Alice! I know you are in there," Rick's voice boomed in my head while I struggled to take over control.
I would never forgive myself if I had harmed Rick.
"Rick, I am sorry," I cried.
"Alice, it's ok, you were just protecting your mate, it's normal." He replied in my mind.
"I need to talk to you now. Please follow me."
I could have shifted right there, as I was in control now. Nudity is never an issue among wolves. We do not exactly go around prancing naked constantly. But due to shifting in groups, no one cares about nudity. Still, I wanted to avoid shifting in front of Lucian. I barely knew him!
I padded towards one of the bedrooms. I shifted and pulled on one of the robes lying around. We keep robes and clothes all over the place in case someone shifted and lost their clothes. Rick followed soon after. He looked perplexed.
