Her face was pale as a ghost, her breaths shallow and quick, her slender body trembling uncontrollably.
"Evadne, don't panic, listen to me!"
Cassius felt a sharp pain in his chest, a turmoil swirling inside him. He knew he couldn’t hide the truth for long, so he decided to give her the news as gently as possible. "Thaddeus was hurt during a confrontation with Avery on Rose Island. He hasn’t woken up yet."
"But don’t worry too much. Aside from a bullet wound in his left shoulder, he doesn’t have any other serious injuries, no damage to his organs."
"His left shoulder... again!" Evadne's eyes widened, tears welling up, threatening to spill over. "Back on Star Island, he injured that same shoulder saving me. And now he’s been shot there again! His left arm... it might be beyond repair!"
As she spoke, tears rolled down her cheeks, each drop a testament to the pain stabbing through her heart.
"Evadne, please, try to stay calm," Debby hurriedly reassured her. "Your brother-in-law and I have called in the best surgeon from Helgen. They removed the bullet and performed surgery. His arm is saved. There might be some lingering pain, but it shouldn’t interfere with his daily life."
"If it’s just an injury, why hasn’t Thaddeus woken up?" Evadne demanded, her voice edged with desperation.
The atmosphere was thick with tension, like an invisible hand squeezing her throat, filling her with dread.
"I can’t just stay here. I need to see Thaddeus, to be with him!"
Ignoring her brothers' attempts to hold her back, Evadne swung her legs over the side of the bed, ripping the IV from her hand with a wince, and stumbled towards the door.
"Evadne! You’re still weak, you shouldn’t be moving!" Cassius and Elvis rushed to her side, but Evadne’s legs gave out, and she crumpled to the floor.
Yet she refused to give up; she would crawl if she had to, to be by Thaddeus’s side.
