All this time, Sarah had been a chip on Lily's shoulder, and it was all because of Xavier's behavior.
Even if he had been unaware of how much of an impact Sarah would've made, it was still because of him that Lily had ended up being hurt.
Xavier was the kind of person who was too focused on whether something was right. He wouldn't care about the details.
"Will you go back to Fulton Manor, then?" Maryanne probed for Lily's thoughts gently.
With one hand, Lily twirled her hair around her finger. She shook her head.
She didn't want to go back to Fulton Manor. At the same time, she didn't know how to communicate with Xavier either.
Maryanne whispered, "My mom said that Xavier the Hound took after his mother. Usually, men would be described as 'one of a kind'. But my mom said that your mother-in-law is a 'one and only'. Of all people, she met Xavier's father, who didn't mind her being so cold and aloof!"
Lily giggled. That description was quite befitting of Tamara indeed.
"My mom also said that to love someone means to accept their flaws too. For example, Xavier is someone who's naturally unaffectionate. He doesn't love you or anyone else. If you find that you're truly unable to let him go, just bear with it."
Maryanne wasn't speaking for Xavier. Lily had been involved with Xavier for such a long time. Maryanne simply felt that if Lily and Xavier shared an ill-fated relationship, it was still their fate.
Even though Lily hadn't been happy in her marriage with Xavier over the last two years, at the very least, she hadn't been as miserable as she had been these last few months as she tried to get their divorce.
If Xavier wanted, he would have just divorced her. But it was obvious that he wasn't keen on getting a divorce. With all this back and forth, how was Lily going to move on with her life?
Lily could see that Marika had probably brainwashed Maryanne.
In the previous few instances when Marika had been around, Maryanne's aversion to Xavier had been clear as day. Marika was probably afraid that she would embarrass herself before the Fultons, therefore affecting the relationship between the Fulton family and the Devereux family.
So, from a realistic point of view, she had shared her analysis with Maryanne.
Indeed, life these few months had been terrible. As long as Xavier refused to get a divorce, Lily couldn't feel at ease, and her life would still be in turmoil.
