"What's the matter?" Xavier's mood dropped at her subtle movement. "Are you disappointed? Who were you hoping to see?"
He had noticed Lily's gloomy expression when she saw him earlier. It was as though his presence was unwelcome as if he had been the one eager to show up. Now, facing her cold attitude again, he was thoroughly annoyed.
Lily caught the underlying tone in his words and finally looked at him properly. "If you don't want to see me, why are you talking so much?"
Xavier fell silent at her words.
"Dr. Blackwood indeed invited you, but if he'd told me earlier he needed help, I wouldn't have someone else come instead," Lily said bluntly.
She had nothing to lose now, so why should she be afraid of Xavier? She only feared Xavier interfering with Hayden's treatment and stopping Rowan from helping.
After throwing some jabs, she returned to the stands to take her seat.
Xavier was livid, his teeth grinding so hard he nearly cracked them. Who did she want then? Terence? Of course, she had the confidence to speak to him like that with someone backing her now!
Meanwhile, having finished briefing Hayden, Rowan walked around to the car's passenger side.
Seeing Xavier's increasingly dark expression, he patted his shoulder and said, "Since you're already here, just finish what you started. At least cooperate with today's treatment and stop trying to talk to her. Get in the car already."
As Rowan spoke, he opened the passenger door and climbed in.
Xavier was dumbfounded. His expression darkened further, but he suppressed the anger in his chest and got into the other car.
Lily held her breath in the stands. She had a rough idea of what Rowan was planning.
Hayden's trauma stemmed from the car accident, and now Rowan was making him drive again, almost recreating the scene of the incident—forcing him to confront his fear and overcome it.
Of course, Hayden wasn't in any condition to face this in an uncontrolled environment. The racetrack was empty, with comprehensive crash-prevention measures on the surrounding roads.
If Hayden lost control, Xavier's car could step in to stabilize the situation, ensuring nothing went wrong.
