Charlie looked back and saw her coming, squinting his eyes slightly and waiting for her to approach.

Emily's heart was pounding, and her hands were shaking nervously. "Mr. James, here's a toast to you!"

Charlie noticed her face was off and said softly, "Are you feeling unwell?"

Emily shook her head blankly.

Charlie took the wine from her hand, looking at her intently. "If you're not feeling well, don't drink. I'll drink this for both of us – consider it your toast to me."

With that, he raised his glass to his lips.

"Charlie." Emily murmured, trying to stop him, but her arm seemed filled with lead, unable to move an inch. She could only watch helplessly as Charlie downed the whole glass.

Charlie drank the wine in her glass, then his own, and whispered in a low voice that only the two of them could hear, "Have something to eat, and I'll take you home later."

Emily's eyes filled with tears, and she suddenly felt like crying. She didn't dare look at him and turned back to her seat.

Sitting down, Emily felt even more uneasy. The drug was given to her by Noreen, and she didn't know when it would take effect or how Charlie would react.

She was fidgety, and even her colleagues next to her noticed her change. They asked with concern, "Emily, what's wrong?"

"I'm fine!" Emily shook her head, catching a glimpse of Charlie looking her way. She looked back instinctively, meeting his gaze. She wasn't sure if it was her imagination, but Charlie's eyes seemed less clear than before.

She took a deep breath and told her colleague, "I'm just gonna step outside for a sec."

"Alright, be careful," her colleague said worriedly.

Emily got up and walked out. As she left the room, she leaned against the wall, her heart pounding.

Charlie watched Emily's retreating figure, worried and irritable, feeling a strange sensation rise within him.
