The thirty-ninth floor.
After Emily came back, she started tidying up the documents. Half an hour later, Tracy came out from the CEO's office, looking lost and completely devoid of confidence she shown in the past few days.
She walked to her desk, let out a choked sob, and then began to pack her belongings.
It was clear that after what had happened, Tracy would be fired.
A moment later, a girl named Maggie from the planning department was brought in to take over Tracy’s duties.
Emily carried some documents to find Charlie for his signature. Gavin was also in the office, jokingly saying, "I just spoke to Mr. James that you've been put in a tough spot because of this, and we need to make it up to you somehow!"
Emily replied calmly, “No, I should also bear some responsibility for this mess. I’m grateful that Mr. James isn’t holding me accountable. Considering what’s happened, I don’t think I’m suitable to participate in the bidding process. Please have Mr. James arrange for another staff. I'll provide full cooperation.”
Charlie was looking at the documents with an indifferent expression. He didn’t even look at her as he said, “Hand it to Maggie.”
“Got it!” Emily nodded, handing Charlie the documents for his signature.
After signing the documents, Charlie slid them back across the desk without uttering another word.
Ever since Emily told him she didn’t love him, Charlie’s attitude toward her had been cold and distant. He had kept his word. He maintained a professional demeanor, strictly businesslike and he no longer pried into her life or mentioned their past.
Emily picked up the documents, nodded slightly, and left without showing any sign of emotion.
Gavin, looking at Emily’s retreating figure, asked Charlie, “Why do I sense that something is off between you two?”
“Nothing’s wrong!” Charlie replied indifferently, his head still buried in the documents. “Just focus on your task and don’t be so curious!”
“By the way,” Gavin leaned in with knowing smile on his face, “do you really think Wilson had no idea about his secretary's undercover dealings with Waters? And didn’t realized that he was holding our reserve price?”
Charlie didn’t even look up. “That doesn't matter now. The problem’s been resolved. Horizon Enterprises has withdrawn from the bidding. Whether he knew or not is no longer our concern.”
