Find Me In Your Labyrinth novel Chapter 1631

"This time it's different!" Mrs. James, with her well-maintained face, showed a touch of concern. "At least, you are the first girl he has brought to me."

"Mr. James didn’t brought me there yesterday," Emily replied.

Mrs. James shook her head, "He purposely made you appear. You're a smart woman, you should see that."

Emily kept her gaze down and stayed silent.

"Since you're a smart woman, Ms. Sullivan, I'll be direct. First, I've had your background checked and your family did surprised me. It's not that I’m snobbish, but I know clearly that relationships between people of different social classes usually don't end well. And the situation with your family."

Mrs. James didn't finish her sentence, pausing for a moment before continuing, "So, I really don't think you and Charlie have a future."

Emily knew Mrs. James was being as tactful and polite as possible. She nodded slowly and replied, "I understand."

A waiter brought their coffee, interrupting their conversation.

Emily kept her composure and did not behave arrogantly just because Charlie liked her, which deeply impressed Mrs. James. With a softer tone and a warm smile, she asked, "You haven't had lunch yet, have you?"

Without waiting for a reply, she turned to the waiter, "Please bring this lady a grilled cheese sandwich and a croissant."

"Thank you," Emily replied with a light smile.

Mrs. James took a sip of her coffee, her gaze softened and she said, "To be honest, I already like you although it was our first meeting. And I liked Kya. I know you were in a relationship with Charlie for some time, so if you need financial or any other form of compensation, just let me know. I'll definitely meet your requirement."

Emily concealed the deep pain in her eyes and tried to remain calm, "Mr. James has helped me a lot, and I don't need any compensation."

"Are you sure you don’t need anything? You're a single mother, and your family won't help you. Right now, you can just ask, and you and Kya can live comfortably for the rest of your lives. You should consider it. You don't need to prove your pride, I won't look down on you, and I won't tell Charlie," Mrs. James sincerely said.

"I really don't need it!" Emily's said with determination, "I can provide for Kya on my own."

Mrs. James looked deep at Emily and smiled, "You're a righteous woman, Emily. But your stubbornness might cause you a lot of hardship."
