Emily was a bit taken aback, whipping her head towards Charlie with a bit of an angry tone, "You're overthinking this!"
She glared at him. He actually accused her of being suspicious and petty!
Kya, playing nearby, looked up at the sound, her little brow furrowed, "Mommy, don't get angry. Talk nicely."
Emily was speechless.
Seeing Kya defend him, Charlie felt delighted and patted her head, "Kya is such a good girl!"
Seeing Kya yawn, Emily picked her up saying, "I'll take her for a bath and put her to bed."
"I'll do it. I haven't told Kya a story in a while," Charlie offered.
Kya also reached out for Charlie, "I want Uncle Charlie to tuck me in."
Emily sighed, "I'll give her a bath first then."
It was getting late and Kya, after a day full of play, obediently took a bath, put on her pajamas, and laid in bed. But she insisted on staying awake until Charlie came to tell her a story.
Once Charlie arrived, Emily handed Kya over to him and went to sleep in the adjacent room.
Emily leaned against the headboard, planning to read a bit, but all she could think about was what Mrs. James had said today.
Her thoughts were jumbled, and she didn't turn a single page for a good while. She eventually set the book aside, laid down, and was about to drift off when she felt someone kissing her.
Emily immediately woke up, pushing Charlie away instinctively.
"What's wrong?" Charlie's voice in the dark was low and magnetic.
Emily whispered, "I'm not feeling well."
Charlie didn't move. He silently watched her before asking calmly, "Physically or emotionally?"
