Find Me In Your Labyrinth novel Chapter 1557

"It's probably because I attended your brother's wedding that everyone at the branch office has ideas about your brother. Some are trying to suck up to me by promoting your brother, while others are worried that his rapid promotion might threaten their own interests. So, your brother's been getting stuck with overtime and socializing lately." Charlie explained patiently.

Emily was confused. "Are there people trying to stop my brother from getting promoted? But shouldn't working harder make it easier for him to get promoted?"

Charlie responded, "No, sometimes working too hard is just a waste of time and could lead to mistakes. This is just a manipulative tactic used by some seasoned bosses."

Finally, Emily got it. "So that's how it is."

Charlie said seriously, "So, I didn't consider this carefully. I'm sorry."

Emily shook her head. "It's not your fault. I won't blame you. I'm very understanding."

Charlie looked at her deeply. "Actually, I wish you could be less understanding sometimes."

What he meant was that, he wished she could lose her temper at him sometimes, be a little capricious occasionally, and be happier.

But Emily didn't get his underlying meaning, she just looked up at him with confusion.

Charlie shook his head slightly, changing the subject. "Can you sleep? I can have Kent take you home. I'll stay here and take care of Elliott."

"No need!" Emily answered. "You should go home. I can stay here. I've already told Estelle, and I'll hand Kya over to Ms. Simmons in the morning."

"Then I'll stay here with you." Charlie held her tighter. "You rest, I'll keep an eye on Elliott's condition."

Emily wanted to say no, she didn't want to owe him too much, and she didn't want to put him in a difficult position. He had very particular living habits, so there was no need for him to squeeze into a small bed with her.

However, she was probably too tired. Before she could say anything, she slowly closed her eyes again.

Charlie moved closer to the bed, holding her in his arms. Emily quickly caught a faint scent from him.
