As soon as Nicholas loses his son, his thirst for power will wane, and those godsons of his will be much easier to handle. Be it the military or political faction, any team made up of people will inevitably have conflicts of interest. Bran's ambition was vast, and he had thoroughly analyzed the situation over the past few months. This was undoubtedly an excellent opportunity.
"Listen, Sis, don't go soft on me now. A moment's mercy could land you in a whole heap of trouble."
Bran was dead serious about climbing the ranks and building a career. "Cure the man, and all you'll get is an insincere thank you. And if he doesn't make it or ends up brain-damaged, he'll have the nerve to accuse you of foul play. Hurry, hurry, collapse now! His men are waiting at the docks. I bet they'll be here soon."
Stella couldn't help but laugh. "Even if I pretended to faint, you think he wouldn't find a reason to blame me?"
A look of frustration crossed Bran's face. "At least it'd give him less ground to stand on."
She got his point. Anyone who could hold the title of division commander wouldn't stoop to such childish provocations but would instead use other means.
"Besides his son, are there many others who've fallen ill?"
"The temperature dropped suddenly overnight; a whole bunch of them, including several senior officers, are down. I suspect there's something wrong with the snow."
Bran suddenly clapped his hands to his head. "Dad was chatting with Aunt Sue yesterday, worried whether you'd encountered extreme cold outside, whether you'd catch a chill. He seemed to mention someone falling ill..."
He had been busy working at the time and hadn't caught the full conversation, but he could tell that the boss was quite concerned.
Stella frowned; for Daniel to mention it during casual conversation meant there must be an unusual relationship at play.
"How's Dad's back injury?"
"Just an age-related calcium deficiency; a little rest and he'll be fine."
No sooner had he finished speaking than one of Nicholas's soldiers appeared out of nowhere. "Is Stella here?"
Bran wished he could've hidden her in time.
Stella responded calmly, "That's me. What's the issue?"
"Young Master Shaw has taken ill suddenly. Hearing of your medical skills, Nicholas has specifically sent us to fetch you."
Stella was taken aback. "I haven't even gotten my medical degree, where do these so-called medical skills come from? The director here is a top-notch military doctor; I wouldn't dare show off in front of him."
She spoke as sweetly as if singing. Clearly, they were after her medicine.
"Stella, please assist us."
Without objecting, Stella agreed. "Alright, I'll come with you to take a look, but I can't promise anything. After all, the right medication is key."
She informed Jasper of the situation. Jasper didn't object. "I'll accompany you."
The supplies she had brought back were being looked after by Cole and the team, no problem there.
Bran was bummed out, but when he heard his sister had brought back 130,000 cubic meters of oil, his jaw nearly hit the floor. Yep, that was his sister alright!
