Chapter 59 – Five years later
LAURA
It’s been a few years, more precisely five, since Xander was born, and Liam was warned about what Camille was doing. He had sent spies out and was regularly hearing news from them. But so far, it had been pretty quiet with any actual plans to attack us and try to kidnap Zara. And Liam insists on always having a few guards with us if we go to town. And also have warriors around the school area. Valerie’s protection spell worked. It hid her true eye color, but it also suppressed her powers to a minimum, so there was no more considerable change that others wouldn’t notice. Zach, Xander, and Kai were growing fast, and both already showed that they had powerful genes. Xander is the most powerful one, even though he is the youngest. Zack and Kai don’t mind, though, and love training with Xander when Liam and Mack run and do different things to build up their stamina, of course without pushing them too far, and he makes it fun for them. Liam says to more stamina they have, the easier it will be for them when they are old enough to build their muscles and start fighting.
Zara was growing too, but it was also very obvious that she was not a warrior or a fighter. She loves learning other things, like reading and helping to take care of Mack and Cora’s little daughter Caroline. She was a cutie and looked a lot like her mom. She also loved spending time with Rosa playing piano, and drawing. But the thing she loved the most was when Liam came into her room every night and spent a little time treating her as the princess he said she was and read her a bedtime story. They all had their own rooms now, and just a few months ago, Liam and the boys surprised her by making an actual princess room, and she loved it. Her brothers are so protective of her and help her out if another kid is being mean. Zara loves Kai and always runs after him when he is home, trying to get his attention. Kai is four years older, but he still takes his time to be friendly and sweet to Zara. Even though it must be annoying at times, he never refuses her or tells her to leave him alone. Rosa has the Idea that they might be mates in the future. But it is too early to know that.
Me, I am happier than I have ever been in my life. Liam and I were so good together, and we love each other. I had been in heat about once a year but had not gotten pregnant again. But that is okay. Liam says if it happens, it happens. If not, he is just happy with the three kids we have. Once every week, we let Shadow and Kali out so they can spend time together too. After
all, they are mates just as Liam and I are.
Today is the twins’ birthday, and they turn six years old. They had asked Liam if they could have a big party, and of course, Liam said yes, not that he would ever say no. So today, the outside was transformed into a giant playground for the children in the pack, with water slides, a carousel, and a bouncy castle. And of course, all kinds of food were made too,
I look out the window in our bedroom, look out on it all, and shake my head with a giggle when Liam’s strong arms surround me,
“What is it?” He asks, looking out, concerned as is trying to figure out if he forgot something,

“You are spoiling them,” I tell him and smile, and he chuckles.
“Of course, I am, They deserve it.” He says and turns me around so he can kiss me. I love when
he shows me how much he loves me.
The door opens, and three sets of tiny feet run toward us. Liam picks up the twins, and I pick up Xander.
“It is so great, daddy, and we can’t wait to get outside.” Zara squealed excitedly
“Yes, dad, we can’t wait to get outside, thank you. Zach says. “You are welcome. You have been really good, so you deserve it. Remember to be careful and look out for your sister, okay boys?” Liam asks Zach and Xander.
“We always do, dad, no one teases her or is mean when we here.” Xander says proudly.
“I know, boys, and we are so proud of all of you.” He says, giving the boys a high five and Zara a kiss on her cheek. We put them all back on the floor, and then we go outside. Many families with kids are here to join us, and before we know it, everyone is having fun.
LIAM
The day was going exactly as I had planned, the twins had requested a party for the birthday, and as the daddy I am, I made it happen. It made my heart melt when the squeals of happiness came from Zara, and the joy and excitement were shining in their eyes.
Laura and I were sitting at a table with Mack and Cora together or other members of our pack, just talking and relaxing, when a terrified scream tore through me. I was up instantly, and the same was everyone else. I scanned the area when I heard Zach’s voice. “Leave my sister alone.” I saw him rush toward the trees with Xander and Kai hot in his heels.
I was moving before I realized it, slower than I wanted to, so I didn’t accidentally hurt one of the other children. Finally, I speed up with Mack and Laura closely behind me, coming past them.
There they were, all three boys clinging and trying to fight some man carrying a crying and screaming Zara who was struggling to get free. The man was a rouge, judging from the smell and his appearance. He kicks off Xander and Zack while struggling to get Kai off him. Kai being older meant he had more training than the other boys. Both Zack and Xander got up and rushed back in their direction.
Just as I shifted and let Shadow take over, a mist surrounded them, and I heard small grunts, and all three boys came flying through the air. Kai managed to land safely while Laura and Mack caught Zack and Xander. And then everything cleared, the mist disappeared, but the
rouge and Zara were gone with it, Shadow ran through the trees, scanned, sniffed, and searched everywhere, but they were nowhere to be seen.
