The CEO's Dirty Little Secret novel Chapter 28

Everything was as it should have been.

The contract was signed so all the bullshit was going to stop. The moment she actually read the contract of course.

Roman looked at the copy of the contract that had been placed on the side of his desk. Last night had been a dickish move, and this morning, taking her like that had been completely unnecessary.

But the first thing he had seen when he had opened his eyes was her stunning face and... Well, he wasn't a monk. He could be forgiven for continuing the charade even after he's gotten what he had gone there for.

But now he could put a stop to her visits to this boy without having to do anything drastic like follow her in there and punch the living shit out of him.

Brendan. Brendan Smith. A generic name for an equally unimpressive man. There had never been any competition there.

Not that he had gone through all this just to get rid of another man. That would be just ridiculous. It was the principle behind the matter. Evelyn had given herself to him, and with him was exactly where she would remain until he said so.

His phone rang, thankfully taking his mind from the stupid thoughts.

  "Yes?"

"Sir, Miss Cartwright is here to see you. I've told her that you have a meeting in a few minutes but she said it's urgent."

  He sighed.

Just great. Of course, she would say it was urgent. She probably wanted to colour coordinate their clothes like they were teenagers going to prom.

  "Send her in," he instructed.

If it wasn't for the fact that he needed to be at this party, he would have continued ignoring her less than subtle advances.

Vivian Cartwright walked in, in a haze of perfume, self-importance and privilege. Her handbag alone could feed a big family three times a day for months. He could admit she was a beautiful woman - tall, leggy, big eyes and chest. But she was not his type. Her only ambition was to marry rich so she could go from spending her father's money to her husband's.

Exactly like Esther. And that was why agreeing to be by her side for the night was grating on his nerves.

"Roman," she smiled as she came around his desk and kissed his cheeks in greeting.

She had never taken such liberties before, but one date and it was like she thought she had him already wrapped around her finger.

"Vivian," he greeted without a smile.

"I was in the neighbourhood and thought I'd just drop by to make sure we're all set for tomorrow night."

Vivian was soft-spoken and liked to appear demure. Just a mask to use as bait for the 'right man', whoever that unlucky bastard would be in the future. He'd already seen the real her several times since he had met her.

"Didn’t my assistant email you the confirmation?" he asked as he looked back at the paperwork in front of him.

His assistant had been right to try to stop Vivian from coming in. He'd overloaded his diary by cancelling so many things the day before, and now he had to catch up before he could drive down to see Evelyn again.

"She did," Vivian answered, "but you know me. I like to confirm things in person."

"Yes, but I'm very busy, Vivian. What was so urgent?"

"I just needed to know what colour suit and tie you're wearing. I'd already picked an outfit but I just had this horrid thought that we might clash dreadfully."

He looked back up at the woman who had sat down across from him.

What the... Was she actually serious?

There were several ways he could have gone to the Cartwright exclusive party. People tended to invite him to places because of his connections and his money. But the day he'd instructed Philip to accept the invitation, it had been his need to prove that Evelyn meant nothing that had driven him.

  Something he regretted sorely now.

"I'll have my assistant email you," he answered before he looked back at his work again. "I'll pick you up tomorrow, Vivian."

It took the woman a little while to realise or accept that she had been dismissed, but once she did, she stood up.

"Well, I really must go. I'm looking forward to tomorrow," she said.

The moment the door closed behind her, he looked at the folder with the contract again. Evelyn was probably pissed off with him because of how he had left this morning.

But this was what she signed up for and she had to deal with it like an adult. He had no doubt she would try to hand in her notice tonight. She had read that part of the contract. Flipped right through to the termination section in front of him so he would notice. Maybe she thought he would get hurt and try to stop her.

  But he was done playing.

There was nothing Evelyn could say or do now that would affect anything. No games, no bullshit. He would go to her when he pleased and she would open her legs wide open. And even if she told him she loved him, he was old enough to be able to ignore that. He would not get sucked in by pretty words.

  He was not his father.

The only thing that mattered above everything else was they would both get the sexual gratification they needed. Because she definitely needed that the same way he did.

  Last night proved that.

If she did hand in her notice then he would have to tell her that it was still ultimately his decision. Her notice would be just a piece of paper worth nothing. Just like her declarations of love meant nothing to him. She would get pissed off with him, but this was the way it had to be.

Maybe a session in her playroom would put that inevitable conversation off for a while. Though the last time they’d had angry sex had been...

Well, he wasn’t in a rush to repeat that experience.

What he needed to worry about was the Cartright party and what he needed to do when he got there.

He looked at the clock on the wall and pushed the contract further away from him. He wasn’t going to let Evelyn take any more of his time.

He’d fixed the situation now. He was back in control.
