Avery could not bring herself to speak but kept crying. She did not have a choice.

“I like you. I have liked you since that year in that small town. However, I believe love is different. I can't find any way to control my possessiveness for you after falling in love with you.” Cayden articulated each word slowly and clearly. His Adam's apple moved as he spoke.

However, Avery continued to look down and refused to let him see her expression.

He let go of her and turned around to light a cigarette.

Then, he sat with his back facing her and took a few drags of the cigarette. The addictive taste of the nicotine did not make him feel better. Instead, he felt worse than before.

Avery did not say anything on the journey back. At the same time, Cayden remained silent too.

Once the car arrived at the residential area of her rented apartment, Avery got out of the car. Her eyes were dry and painful. At the same time, she reminded herself to never turn around to look at him.

Then, Avery brought the food to the table and said, “Grandpa, since your teeth are healthy, you should have more of the barbecue spare ribs you love.”

Blake accepted the plate from her and gave a sorrowful sigh. “Sometimes, I could not help but think it is not good to live too long. I feel like a burden to you now that I am old...”

Avery hurriedly comforted Blake, “How can you be a burden to me? I will only feel happy with you by my side. Furthermore, having meals and watching TV series with you makes me feel secure and reminds me that I have a family too.”

Her eyes were full of tears after she finished speaking. She did not want Blake to see her crying, so she escaped into the kitchen. “I think I forgot to turn off the oven's power supply. Let me go check it.”

Later, she went on a date with Brodie. He had booked a table at an expensive place.

However, the waitress said, “My apologies, sir. The pastry chef had an urgent family matter and had gone home. So, the dessert you asked for is no longer available for tonight. Would you like to change to another type of dessert?”

Switching to another type of dessert would defeat the purpose of dining there.

Brodie did not plan to be romantic and was not a romantic person. However, since a lady was willing to be with him and live an ordinary life with him in the future, he wanted to give her all the nice things within his power.

In the future, when others talked about the city's most famous dessert, his wife, Avery, would not feel inferior and could say proudly, “My husband and I have been there and tried the dessert.”

“When I made the booking, I was informed that the pastry chef would be here.” Brodie found it unbelievable. He did not expect to hear about a pastry chef's sudden absence in such a high-end restaurant.

Then, he glanced at the neighboring table. They had only arrived a little earlier than us. Why do they have that dessert? How can the pastry chef leave at such bad timing?

The waitress insisted that the pastry chef was not around and kept smiling as she apologized to Brodie.

Therefore, Brodie had no choice but to switch to another dessert.

After leaving the dessert shop, Brodie drove the car to send Avery home.

They had officially begun dating.
