Chapter 15 Borrowed Thirty Million 

Even her uncle, Brian Jennings, leaped to his feet in agitation, “Heather, you’re a child of the Jennings family. This family has provided for you since you were young. You have an obligation to save this family!” 

The Jenningses were agitated because Heather was supposed to borrow thirty million from Walt to save the Jennings family after spending time with him for three days. 

Since Heather was back that early, it incant that she had broken her promise. 

Most importantly, the Jennings family could no longer hold their ground. Without funds, they were going to have to file for bankruptcy. 

Even Demi was livid at that moment.. 

She had left the fate of the family to Heather’s hands, after all. 

“Heather, we told you again and again that you have to borrow thirty million no matter what happens. But here you are, breaking your promise! I’m starting to wonder if you were lying to Granny and us!” Heather’s cousin, Jacob Jennings, began accusing her. 

“I wasn’t lying to Granny!” 

Heather thought that her success in borrowing thirty million in advance would make others praise her. 

However, her family did nothing but chide her the moment she entered the house. It felt as if she had been dunked into a freezing pool, for icy tendrils crept around her heart in disappointment. 

“What’s wrong with you, Heather?” Carmen Garnet was also staring at Heather, annoyed. 

If Heather managed to borrow thirty million, her son, Lucas Jennings, would be able to get ten percent of the shares. In other words, his dividends would be in millions. 

However, not only was Lucas not getting any shares, but he might even lose his year–end bonus. 

Tears welled up in Heather’s eyes when she realized her mother was accusing her as well. 

For her family, she had suffered all kinds of humiliation that day, and she even had an irreversible falling out with her husband. 

But she said nothing about that. 

She chose to silently bear the burden. 

Everyone, including Carmen, was not treating her like a person. 

It made her utterly disappointed in her family.

Right then, Demi slammed her cane on the coffee table, breaking two of the cups on it. 

Rage quickened her blood, and she bellowed, “This is outrageous! He will be slapped as punishment!” 

How dare a mere live–in son–in–law say our family members are good–for–nothings? He’s courting death! 

Hearing that, the young men all darted toward Alex to restrain him. 

They had been putting up with Alex for a long time and had been wishing for a chance to beat him up. 

Alex scoffed. Before Jacob and the other could come close to him, he lifted his arm to deliver three slaps. 

It had also been a long while since Alex had put up with the Jenningses. Thus, his slaps were swift and aggressive. Jacob and the other two ended up falling to the ground. 

The rest of the people could only look at Alex, completely bewildered. 

They could not believe the helpless Alex they knew had just slapped Jacob and the others to the ground. 

Then, Alex took a step forward and stepped on Jacob’s chest. 

“How dare you?” Demi screeched, her temper sparking. She shot up to her feet and raised her cane to swing it downward at Alex’s head. “I’m going to kill you!” 

Yet, Alex grabbed Demi’s cane, moving as swiftly as lightning. His gaze was vicious, and a ghastly aura enveloped the room, making the people inside shudder. 

“I’d advise all of you to behave yourself. Otherwise, don’t be too upset if I show no mercy to you,” Alex uttered, shooting them all icy looks. 

Even the heart of the aggressive Demi skipped a beat at that. 

“That’s enough! Stop fighting!” Heather shouted. “I’ve borrowed the thirty million!” 

As she roared, she threw the check onto the coffee table.
