Royally Kidnapped by the Prince novel Chapter 26

KENNEDY

I miss New York.

I missed my parents, my friends, and even my job. My throat started to clog. Maybe, this would be my life for a few days or weeks.

Patience is a virtue.

Who knew? One day, I would be back to my ordinary life, away from this fuss and luxuries.

For the next couple of hours, I tried my best to enjoy what I had and where I was right now—in the nightclub as I danced with Princess Carlott.

She never ceased to surprise me. Carlott was not the typical princess. She may have everything but also knew how to have some fun. Press may label as a party princess, but she also did her duties thoughtfully.

For the first time since my abduction, I felt carefree. Every time a guy came to dance with me, within a second, he was gone. It frustrated me because I wanted to dance with someone other than Carlott. But no chance.

Everywhere I looked, though—those sneaky eyes were watching us like hawks, and so was Lud. Wew! These guys in suits took their job seriously—they did not know how to loosen up even in a place like this.

I glared at Lud on the second floor and showed him my middle finger. If I couldn’t curse him, at least my glare should do the tricks. To my dismay, he didn’t give any reactions to satisfy my disappointment.

“I think I need to rehydrate,” I told Carlott.

“I need to freshen up as well.”

I ordered as soon as I got into the VIP room. Carlott went to the ladies’ room. Not a minute later, Lud walked in.

“Aren’t you a killjoy much?”

“And be killed by your boyfriend. No, thanks.” He sat across mine.

“He’s not my boyfriend.” I glared further.

“Keep telling yourself that.” He looked at me with amusement in his eyes.

“You, you keep telling yourself that this stupidity might work for us. Dream on, Lud, because you know exactly how this ends and how long this lasts.”

My drinks arrived. I picked up my Aviation and took a sip. Lud kept staring at me with his brows knitted in concentration.

“What?” I put my drinks down.

“You’re still in huge denial or enjoy torturing Prince Thayer.”

“Don’t you think he deserves a little torture? But no, I’m not doing this to torture him. This is called fun. Though he hurts me, and I still haven’t forgotten the fact that you orchestrated my kidnapping. So give me a break if I can’t stand you and your prince.”

“For how long are you gonna keep your charade, Kennedy? You know that he needs his undivided attention to his duties. Right now, the King is very ill. One of these days, he may die, and Thayer will have more responsibilities to the crown, to this country. Aren’t you a little bit bratty and selfish?”

“Selfish? Bratty? How about you also add American whore to your adjectives?”

His eyes widened in shock. Pain crossed his face. “You are everything but not a whore.”

“You don’t know me, Lud. I understand your loyalty to Thayer, and I admire you for that. But he can just let me go so that I can go back to my boring life. He is arranged to someone anyway. It’s only a matter of time before he realizes what a huge mistake he did, wasting his time for someone like me.”

He shook his head and rose from his seat, staring at me for a few seconds before he talked, “You’re important to him more than the anger you keep inside you.”

“That’s where you’re terribly wrong.”

“Whatever anger or hatred brewing inside you, remember this, Kennedy. My boss wouldn’t just do something desperate that could risk his family. Taking you without your consent is one of those risks. You’re a foreigner, and he’s a prince. Think of the consequences. You also have to consider why he did that. I’m sure, and deep inside you, you know exactly the reason why. And he still deserves a little respect from you, at least when someone is around.”

I opened my mouth to reply. I had to shut it close when no words seemed to come out. Instead, I dawn my drinks in one gulp.

Carlott rode home with her detail while I joined Lud and another guy who was silent in the driver’s seat.

Sighing, I rested my head back and thought of Lud’s words. I chose not to reply when he asked me if I needed anything. What else I wanted other than going back home?

“Try answering his texts at least once a day. That would make our jobs a lot easier.”

I ignored him and pretended he didn’t exist, but it was hard when he kept on talking. “Ignore me all you want, but you just realized that what I said earlier was true.”

I pierced him with my glare. “You’re full of shit. That’s I’m sure. You could also apply as my advisor. How about that?”

He chuckled. “You may as well behave and refrain from using your middle finger in the public and use fine words as well, love.”
