Read Romancing mister bridgerton book summary:

Though I loved Penelope Featherington, Colin was another story altogether. Before this book I really loved Colin. I couldn't wait for his story. Maybe my expectations were too high. I don't know but I really didn't like Colin most of the time. At times he came off like a big asshole. He was blowing his top every time the wind blew. His temper was just a bit much. One minute he was fine and then he was pissy, cold, and rude. If I was Penelope I would have kicked him in the balls. Penelope was sweet and smart. I felt bad that after being the shy wallflower that everyone acted like was a ugly plain girl, to have the man of your dream finally want you, only to have him snapping at you at the drop of a hat was just sad. Overall with the plot and Penelope Romancing Mister Bridgerton (Julia Quinn) book was still 3 to 3.5 star read but Colin was a real disappointment.

Unrequited love isn’t really my favorite thing to read in romance but I did enjoy Penelope & Colin a lot more this second read

I was beginning to lose hope for the rapey Bridgerton siblings because Julia Quinn has portrayed them in the books. Even after reading four of these novels, I still prefer the television show and can't wait to watch season two.

Luckily, Julia Quinn learned a bit about consent and sexual assault and did not have Colin take advantage of Penelope. These are two of the most liked characters in the series, and it was good to see them done justice.

I saw many reviews complaining about Penelope giving up her "freedom" to be with Colin, but I don't think they were reading closely. Penelope had given up her enterprise with or without Colin. She knew it was only a matter of time until she got caught, and then she later used Colin as an acceptable excuse for her readers. It's not like she needed the money at that point.

Cressida was a huge freaking biatch as usual, and I think she is one of the most well-defined characters in the series. Lady Danbury and Violet are two of my favorite characters, and it was good to see a large showing of Danbury and her quick wit in this one.

While lacking in sexual pressure, Colin devolved into a whiny man-baby which was a bit annoying to see Penelope try to cater to. But at least he got his crap together and never tried to overtly punish Penelope with his jealousy. It was also nice to see Colin respect Penelope (hopefully not JUST because she was a lady) after making out with her.

The Featherington family was horrid as always and stayed true to their character. Any scene with Nigel is a scene too many for me, hahaha.

Overall, it was an excellent relief after the degradation done by Antony and Benedict that was disgusting to me both as a reader and as a vagina-possessing human.

4 Stars. I will read this series into the ground for any glimpse of Simon ;).
