Ice and Fire novel Chapter 623

Finally, he mustered the courage to go in and pushed the door open.

Jackson and Cherry looked at the door and saw Lawrence coming in.

"Lawrence, you're here!" Cherry said to him, as she hastily wiped her tears away.

Lawrence didn't say much, but nodded and put his backpack on the floor. He then walked up to Cherry and took the bowl from her. "Mom, I will feed Violet later. You and dad go home and get some rest," he proposed.

"Now that you're here, we'll go and have a word with Uncle Fred first. Look after your sister while we're gone, we need to discuss somethings with him," Cherry said handing him the bowl of porridge and walking out the door with Jackson.

"Just leave her to me," Lawrence said quietly.

Watching Cherry and Jackson step out of the room, Lawrence perched himself on the edge of the bed and saw Violet's angry face.

"Violet," Lawrence softly said.

She didn't reply. She didn't want to speak to him.

Not being able to bear Violet's radio silence, Lawrence spoke,"I am so sorry Violet. It is all my fault. I shouldn't have left you alone at home; I shouldn't have come home earlier. This is all because of me. I am sorry."

Lawrence couldn't stop the tears from flowing. He burst out crying, hoping she could forgive him.

Violet looked at her brother and was surprised. 'I've never seen him cry before. But today he is weeping for me like this!' she said to herself.

Violet could not believe her eyes when she saw her elder brother looking so dejected. She never saw as much as a frown on his face.

She reached out her tiny hands and touched Lawrence gently on the elbow.

"Lawrence," she called tenderly.

Lawrence looked up. He saw her sad face and morose eyes and felt that she was extremely sad because of the many scars that she had on her body.

He continued to weep, apologizing profusely between sobs,"I am so sorry Violet, forgive me."

Violet lay on her bed, shook her head and said in a low voice,"Lawrence, don't cry. I'm fine."

She couldn't bear to see her brother cry. Yes, she bullied him and even harassed him a lot. But she loved him a lot too. In her eyes, he was her role model, smart, studious and gentle- he was everything a man should be. He had been an extremely nice brother to her as well.

Lawrence didn't say a word, but his crying turned into sobbing.

"Lawrence, I don't blame anyone. It wasn't your fault nor was it Mom's or Dad's fault. I should have been more careful. But now I am sad and worried because I have so many scars and they look ugly. I am never going to be able to wear dresses. It is so unfair that other girls will get to wear pretty clothes but I may never get to do so," she continued. She blurted out her thoughts, not being able to control her emotions any longer. "Lawrence, I want to wear beautiful dresses and hold your arm and go to nice parties. I can't do that anymore, can I?" she said,"I'm now an ugly girl with many scars, and will always be one."

Lawrence held her hand and looked straight into her eyes. "My sister is the most beautiful girl in the world. I will find the best cosmetic surgeon in the world and make him disappear your scars. You shall not bear them," he encouraged.

The thought that her brother loved her so much, put Violet in a good mood. "Oh Lawrence!" she cried out lovingly.

"You are the most beautiful girl in the world, Violet," said Lawrence. He smiled at her.

She looked at Lawrence's resolute face and automatically felt like things were going to be okay.

"Violet, look. Mom and Dad have been very worried ever since the day you injured yourself and landed in the hospital. They have barely rested or eaten, especially Mom! Please try and be obedient and eat as they say. Mom is also keeping poorly..." Lawrence broke off looking at her. He knew that Violet loved her Mom very much and would not harass her.

Violet meekly said,"Yes I understand. I will be better now and eat on time, I won't worry her at all now."

Violet looked outside the window, her heart lighter and her mind more free than it was before. She thought, 'My brother loves me so much. My parents think I am the apple of their eye. Everything is good. Even Alice doesn't treat me differently. So many people love me.'

"Lawrence," Violet said suddenly,"I am hungry. I want to eat."

"Oh, yeah, I will feed you," Lawrence responded gladly, as he wiped his tears and fed her some porridge.

As Jackson and Cherry returned to the ward, they saw Violet and Lawrence chatting merrily. They looked at each other, surprised.

"Dad, Mom," Violet greeted them cheerfully.

It was as if a weight had lifted off Cherry's heavy heart as she hysterically dashed towards Violet's bed. She was so overcome with emotion that she burst into tears at her baby girl's smile.

Violet noticed her mother's swollen red eyes and realised that she was the reason behind her sadness. She looked at her mom and said,"I'm sorry Mom, I'll be obedient now and eat well. You are sad because of me."

Cherry shook her heard, tears flowing down her face. "No, no my baby girl. Don't blame yourself. It is my fault. I should have looked after you better," she blamed herself.

Cherry gently pulled her precious daughter close to her into a hug. She was careful so she didn't hurt her little daughter's wounds further.

Violet hugged her Mom, tightening her grasp around her waist and said,"Mom, I'm sorry. I will be obedient now and will eat everything you give me and on time also. I won't trouble you anymore."

Cherry smiled as happy tears flowed down her face. She thought to herself, 'All I want is for my little Violet to have a happy life. As long as she is happy, there is nothing I want. She is such a good girl.'

"Mom, I am craving for a hamburger. And I also want to eat noodles with soya bean paste, the way Lily makes it," Violet chirped.

Cherry was more than happy to hear that. "Of course my darling. I will ask Lily to prepare the noodles for you," she replied gladly.
