Finding Love in the Boss’s Embrace After Divorce novel Chapter 12

Chapter 12 Cook for Her

Huston approached Evelyn, attempting to gauge her temperature by placing his hand on her forehead. Unexpectedly, she evaded his touch, causing his eyes to narrow dangerously and his displeasure to intensify.

Evelyn dodged without thinking because she wasn’t sure what Huston was going to do.

Now sensing the dangerous signals, Evelyn grabbed his hand and pressed it against her forehead in an attempt to make amends.

This act softened Huston’s expression slightly. “Your fever has subsided.”

“Yes,” Evelyn replied softly.

A brief silence hung in the air. Observing her tense demeanor, Huston averted his gaze before retreating into the kitchen.

Evelyn felt hesitant to walk away, given her recent experience of witnessing his anger the night before. She dared not test his limits.

Wrapped in her pajamas, Evelyn sat on the living room sofa. The afternoon sunlight poured through the sheer white curtains, creating a warm and serene atmosphere.

Moments later, a delightful aroma filled the stillness.

Evelyn blinked in surprise and made her way over. Surveying the delicious chicken noodle soup before her, she asked, “Is… is this for me?”

Huston raised an eyebrow slightly as he put down two empty bowls. “I’m hungry.”

Implying that he had cooked it for himself, not for her.

Evelyn pursed her lips, not particularly bothered. After washing her hands, she sat down, grateful for the opportunity to enjoy a tasty meal.

The noodle soup was absolutely delicious. But Huston ceased eating after consuming only half a bowl. Evelyn stole a few glances at him, quietly pondering, ‘Hungry my ass.”

But thinking of how this man had forced and tormented her on the bed, and now cooking for her… Evelyn felt puzzled about his personality.

“You know how to cook?”

“Mhm.”

“Aren’t super-rich people like you supposed to hire chefs and maids?”

“I don’t like having strangers in my home,” Huston replied.

Evelyn’s fork paused mid-air. She gazed at him intently. “Isn’t it normal to have a maid?”

When she and Jerry had first gotten married, she couldn’t manage everything at home alone. Having a maid’s assistance was super helpful.

Upon hearing her question, a flicker of loneliness and pain seemed to pass over Huston’s face.

Pain?

Evelyn was stunned. How could someone as devilish as him experience pain?

But Huston quickly regained his composure, as if what she saw had been a mere illusion.

Lost in his own thoughts, Huston changed the subject. “Email your resume to me tomorrow.”

“Why?”

“It’s for work.”

“Oh. You’ve already found me a job?” Evelyn was surprised, “What kind? Where is the company? Did they ask for my resume? But I have no work experience…”

“If you had experience, you wouldn’t need my assistance,” Huston stated matter-of-factly.

His straightforward remark caused Evelyn to feel slightly

embarrassed.

After all, this was one of the conditions she requested, but she still felt ashamed to openly pull strings.
