I lay in bed staring up at the crescent moon all night long. Sleeping in the room that was next to Reuben’s was already distracting me, especially when we were only separated by a wall. Whenever I closed my eyes to sleep, Reuben’s words echoed in my mind again and again.
“There is nothing between Ella and I.”
“We are fiancee only on paper.
“Ella does not love me and I don’t love Ella.”

I rested my hand over my crazy heartbeat as I sat up on the bed. Why was I not able to forget it? He has to be lying to me. The news of his marriage was all over the media. She was his fiancee, everything had been laid bare in front of my eyes, yet my wolf was suddenly calm after Reuben’s earlier claim. I had felt sincerity in his claim that he did not love Ella.
‘Lonly want you…’ his words echoed in my ears as my heart started to drum in my chest again.
“No… stop thinking about it,” I buried my face in my hands and wanted to scream.
The whole night, I had been struggling with diving into different pools of emotion that had been raised by Reuben’s claim. I was torn between the betrayal of the past, trust, and the present. The night felt as long as a year yet I had not managed to catch an hour’s sleep.
With the first ray of sun, I got up from my bed, stripped out of my clothes, and went for a run in the woods. To help keep my emotions in check, I let Ceri out. I had to let my wolf out otherwise I was going to go crazy with all the thoughts that I continued to turn over in my head.

I passed the small bridge and entered another part of the woods. I was familiar with every corner of the Emerald Bright Pack territory including the woods. I had spent. some of my most formative years here after all. Enjoying the greenery, I ran for hours until I reached deep into the woods, ending up in a place that was normally avoided by wolves in the pack.
Slowing my pace, I glanced at the large sacred cave where I had only been once before. It was the place where the rejection ceremony was held. Since it was actually a location that was designed to be a place where sadness, tears, and broken bonds were laid to rest, people avoided even coming within eyesight of it.
I stopped in front of the cave glancing at it with mixed emotions. Three months from now, I would have to return here. So that I could complete the rejection ceremony. All the thoughts that had churned in my mind last night cleared when I saw the cave. It was like reality slapped me hard across the face, clearing my mind of all the nonsense I had been clouding it with.
“Did you come here to check if the cave is really sealed or not?’ A sudden mind-link surprised me. I had not received a mind-link for the last six years.
Startled, I looked ahead of me to find a big black Alpha wolf standing in front of me. It was Dex. What was he doing here?
But wait, had Reuben… actually mind-link me? Since I had abandoned the Emerald Bright Pack, breaking all ties with them in the past, it should be impossible for Reuben to mind-link me. So… how could he… have done it?
‘Because he is our soulmate, Ceri replied, surprising me further. She talked to me again!
When I did not answer why I was here, Reuben frowned, I could see his thoughts starting to run wild again.
“You came all the way out here. It seems you cannot wait for rejection,” he growled. Why was he so triggered by me being here? His dark green eyes were fixed on me, boring deep into mine like he never learnt how to blink. The more he stared at me like that the more I felt as if he wanted to swallow me whole.
Suddenly he started walking over to me. My heart quickened by his sudden action. What was he thinking? I quickly took a few steps back, doubtful of his intentions. We were alone in the woods, especially in this isolated area where he could do anything he wanted with me!

I immediately turned around and decided to leave with quick steps but just as I turned a black wolf blocked my path. Reuben shifted into his human form and stood there as naked as the day he was born in front of me.
My eyes widened and my face turned red in shame, ‘What the hell are you doing?’ I yelled at him through a mind-link. Compared to six years ago his body looked stronger than ever. My eyes subconsciously went to his eight pack abs then his manhood. My face turned scarlet and I looked away. Sh it! How was it that after all these years his manhood looked even longer and thicker.

That’s when I realized I had fallen into his trap. I immediately let his hand go and tried to run but he caught me. “Are you running after ogling my naked body?”
My eyes widened, “Are you insane? Who said I was enjoying your nakedness?” I snapped at his crazy words.
“Still you saw me naked right? I felt molested,” he accused.

A chill ran down to my spin. If I shifted then… I would be naked in front of his eyes!
“Nonsense!” I growled and tried to run away but he caught me quickly in his large hands. The next thing I knew my wolf was lifted in the air.

“Let go!” I did not obey him.
“I said don’t move,” he softly nipped my wolf’s ear, sending sparks all over my body. Ceri let out a low moan and I felt like I melted in Reuben’s arms. What was that?
